As we left Kiyomiza-dera and headed back towards the hotel we found a small Takoyaki restaurant.
Takoyaki are balls of a wheat, pancake like batter filled with octopus. The balls are typically covered with takoyaki sauce, mayonaise (not shown in this picture), aonori (green seaweed), katsuobushi (smoked & fermented tuna).
This place had the standard takoyaki sauce and another one called "DX" sauce. This, if I remember right, is a picture of the DX version where the takoyaki balls are also surrounded by raw eggs. Delicious. I think the owner got the name of DX from Degeneration-X, as he was a big fan of Billy "Mr. Ass" Gunn.
Osaka is famous for takoyaki, however I liked the ones at this restaurant more than any other place I ate them in Japan.
